Tree planting 2002 - Present.

Background.

A subject very close to member's hearts, an opportunity to help with the renewal of trees in the Village. The following article appeared in the Newark Advertiser on Februrary 22nd 2002.

Members of the Farndon Residents' Environment Group have planted 150 trees on Long Lane in the village. The last of the ash, alder, maple and crab apple trees were planted by about 14 members on Sunday.

They range from between one foot and four foot high and were paid for by the parish council.

Members planned the tree planting to coincide with planting being organised by the parish council around the village ponds.

Newark Advertiser article.

The group was formed by the parish council about five years ago and meets monthly to discuss any environmental work that needs doing in the village.

They set weekends aside for regular litter picks, keeping footpaths clear of overgrown shrubbery, tree planting and making bat and bird boxes.

The group's chairman (2002), Mr Roy Gardner, of Howitt's Field, said he joined because he had always been interested in countryside management and liked seeing everybody become involved.

The vice-chairman, Mrs Liz Thomas, of Brockton Avenue, said she joined the group because she wanted to improve the village and the environment and it was clear there were areas that needed attention.

The work continues.

One busy pair of weekend saw us plant several hundred new trees.  We plan to repeat this. Again & again!

Year after year we have continued to plant trees all around the Village and Ponds site in particular.
Our biggest achievement was the creation of a brand new woodland, Farndon PArk, take a look at that project.

Nurturing & maintenance continues and further plantings are planned.
