The F.R.E.G team are proud to assist with the creation of the Mobile Xmas tree each year. We originally wanted to create a static tree on the Village green but were defeated by Health & Safety concerns. Refusing to be beaten, we then came up with the idea of the mobile tree that we can take to any location in the Village. This sems to be unique to Farndon and suprises many drivers as they find a Xmas tree coming down the street at them! The idea was initially implemented and managed personally by member Tony Menzies, with the group helping out and decorating and pulling the tree. The group took over the management of the tree at Tonys request a few years ago. The tree is donated each year by Liz's Garden Centre, dressed by the F.R.E.G team and then made available to support any Village group that wishes to use it. The Brownies are happy to join us each year. Their carol singing is always well appreciated around the Village. The sight of the Mobile tree, fully illuminated, following them around the Village adds to the Xmas joy. The Brownies collect for different charities each year and normally raise £100+ and a lot of laughs. The group have regularly partnered with St Peters Church choir since 2004 to bring the Community together at Christmas with a carol singing service on the green. Center to this is the mobile tree. The tree looks beautiful when lit at night. Local children from St Peters love the tree and the Carol night excites as part of the Xmas build up. The singing groups have differed form year to yaer - a professional trio, the Salvation army band, the Church Choir & St Peters School choir. We always have a very appreciative crowd with all ages enjoying Carols, sausage rolls, Mince pies and mulled wine. Everyone enjoys the festive mood and a sea of candles light a wonderful scene. The success of the event is growing each year and the Village Green provides a fantastic venue. Depending on the weather we have had crowds over 200 strong attend the event. Check our calndar and come along!
